Many players feel that Diablo 4 is often lonely and boring. So here we want to discuss what is causing this and what steps Diablo 4 should take to fix it.
First, we’ll discuss a key missing feature and how it affects gameplay, and then we’ll discuss Diablo 4’s overall social features.
Group Finder Feature Missing
The key feature missing from Diablo 4 is Group Finder. How will this feature change the way we play Diablo 4? Currently, there isn’t any Group Finder, which means we spend more time doing things ourselves.
And there is only one layer of interaction between our skills. When you’re playing alone most of the time, the only dimension to consider when creating builds is the way your abilities interact with each other. Of course, you can also choose to make a build that has the best damage and is easy to clear content on its own and can also survive alone.
Let’s look at Sorcerer again. Currently, out of 6 skills, Sorcerer has to use 4 defensive skills, so that’s more than half of their skills, just to survive.
If you pair this Sorcerer with a Thorns Barbarian, the whole thing changes dramatically. Barbarian can use Steel Grasp and Challenging Shout to keep mobs away from Sorcerer. So now Sorcerer doesn’t need as many Diablo 4 Items to improve defense skills. Sorcerer can now deal damage to enemies while Barbarian blocks enemy armies.
But without any Group Finder, this style of play is impossible. Because you have to move constantly and survive alone. So you’ll end up alone, with your Shield and Frost Nova, instead of teaming up with others and playing with more diverse builds.
So the main thing that changes is the way we build. However, it will also change the way we play builds. Each version now has a rotation that you can play repeatedly. Still, not every game loop is satisfying. However, by cooperating with other people, the game loop is fresh every time. Because you have to sync your abilities with other people, which breaks the loop.
For example, you could wait for a Necromancer on your party to cast Bone Prison before starting to cast Leap as a Barbarian. They will attack all enemies inside. And they’ll stay within range of your Leap’s Earthquake, causing more damage than you’re dealing with.
So, you need to take a moment to think about synergy and ways to work with other classes in order to increase the overall damage of your team. This makes the game loop more active and fresher than the existing loop.
Poor Social Features
Moving on to the second point, Diablo 4’s overall lack of social features is worrisome, especially for an always-on open world game. I noticed I didn’t use the chat feature once. Since you can’t even see the chat by default, you need to open it to see it.
Blizzard didn’t try to implement mechanisms, and safeguards to keep the community of civilized. Instead, it was decided to limit in-game interactions as much as possible. This way, you won’t have any problems. For example, they have no way to prevent bot accounts from spamming the global chat, telling them to sell Diablo 4 Gold or to upgrade their services. They decided to get rid of the global chat together.
This is the primary reason people turn to Discord and Communities to find other people to play with. In these Communities, interactions are more organized and of higher quality.
However, if I pay a full price for a game, I would like to also have the option to interact within the game without having to rely on a third-party service. The only option is that they retain the social functionality. This is so that it can be added a year or two earlier in the game’s lifecycle and bring back some players who have left the game by then.
So, the only downside to the social features in Diablo 4 is that you might run into some issues. But the downside of not having social features in the game is less engagement, less build ability, more repetitive gameplay, and less fun overall. So what are your thoughts on Diablo 4’s lack of social features? Please let me know what you think.
