Diablo 4: Why Is Endgame Getting Worse? - 3 Reasons
Aug 14, 2023

Source: MMOWTS

I’ve always been a big fan of Endgame, MMOs, single player games. No matter the genre, Endgame leaves the world completely open to additional levels of fun and exciting challenges.

But unlike the hype of Diablo 4, I think Diablo 4 did not live up to expectations. But worse, I actually think its Endgame kind of sucks. That’s what we’re going to focus on this time, so let’s get straight to the point.

High Difficulty

Honestly, when I first got into Endgame, I enjoyed it. I think the leveling curve feels good. We’re also able to find leveling gear often, and Capstone Dungeons are a fun challenge.

Diablo 4 Endgame - Why is it Hated?

However, the initial fun takes a turn for the worse after entering World Tier 4, which I guess is where the real Endgame begins. I think the difficulty of adjustment for World Tier 3 is reasonable. In comparison, World Tier 4 has too many adjustments.

Because I think Capstone Dungeon should test your gear and level to see if you’re ready to move on. When I first entered World Tier 4, ordinary enemy attacks shot me. I mean, it’s well below the recommended grade. But at the same level in World Tier 3, I can confidently beat Nightmare Dungeon level 20. This means we can transition smoothly to the next layer.

So I think it’s more worthwhile to go back to World Tier 3 and hone mindlessly on Nightmare Dungeon. This way I can upgrade gear more often and also get more Diablo 4 Gold per hour. This has proven to be the best course of action, but it feels a bit backwards to me. I want to do more challenging things but lack motivation. So Endgame becomes more difficult.

Another way they increase the difficulty is by adding more affixes for elites. In theory, this could add more content to these encounters. But I’ve seen ridiculous combinations of affixes happen more often than I care. They are more annoying to deal with than a challenge.

To add insult to injury, some Nightmare Sigil affixes only make it worse. For example, Lightning Sigil makes you have to duck into that little dome, or that stupid rock that follows you. I never found these to be very fun. It just made the dungeon run worse.

The Pacing

Another issue that is starting to get sidelined for me is pacing. As I mentioned before, levels and gear appear a lot in the beginning, but around level 70, this is no longer the case. It’s not just leveling that’s slowed down, what really affected me the most was that gear upgrades almost completely stopped and were very repetitive.

For example, one of the largest parts of Endgame content is Nightmare Dungeon. They are the entire same dungeons you can run at level 1, just with increased scaling and affixes.

In Diablo 4, all dungeons look and feel the same. From the layout, to the environment, objectives, and even boss battles, it feels very repetitive. That’s bad for a game that’s primarily focused on running through dungeons repeatedly.

What New Content?

Once in Endgame, there really isn’t much new content to do. There’s also Tree of Whispers and Helltides, and honestly, with the theme of repetition and looping, the two campaigns are almost identical.

In Helltides, you need to slay enemies in the world and collect unusual Aberrant Cinders. And in Tree of Whispers, you kill enemies in the world and clear dungeons you’ve cleared a dozen times before to collect Grim Favors. You then trade these items in for Diablo 4 Items and XP.

Diablo 4: Why We Don't Find Endgame To Be Fun?

It’s the same thing repeatedly. So do I need to keep polishing it to make content on a slightly larger scale? Even though I reach level 100 and have all gear maxed out. But every time a new season starts, it will also force us to start all over again.

Season 1 Thoughts

I’ve actually started the new season. But the new additions, I’m not impressed. These Malignant Tunnels and Caves are just like other Tunnels and Caves.

To be honest, I feel like the new season is more repetitive than before, because I actually have to redo more content. I thought it was too repetitive and dry without any real payoff. At least in MMO, when I could get gear in every patch and expansion that would help with future content. That’s why I think Diablo 4’s Endgame is kind of bad.

Anyway, that’s all I have to say about Endgame in Diablo 4. Do you like Endgame’s challenges? I want to know your thoughts. Have a great day.
