Hardcore is different from vanilla World of Warcraft. In vanilla WoW, when the main task is raiding and grouping, you can choose professions in advance to prepare for the endgame. But in WoW Hardcore, professions can be used to prolong your survival and get to the endgame in the first place.

Generally speaking, crafting professions are not worth choosing in WoW Hardcore, but there are two notable exceptions: Alchemy and Engineering. Most players will get the most benefit from dual gathering professions, but there are advantages to choosing either one.

WoW Classic Hardcore makes secondary professions more important, because you don't know whether a Bandage or a Well Fed buff in combat will mean you continue to fight or be sent back to character creation. Let's take a look at these professions together!

But in terms of survivability on their own, the best WoW Hardcore profession is Alchemy or Engineering.

Alchemy is particularly useful, as you can craft Healing and Mana Potions for critical combat situations, as well as potions that provide long-term buffs and useful functions, and other useful sources of self-sufficiency.

Engineering

Engineering has long been considered the best WoW Classic profession, and Hardcore WoW gamers should not question it as the best profession for this deadly game mode.

But in Hardcore WoW, Engineering is the best profession for one reason and one reason only: Training dummies. These consumables can be placed in the world, and if an enemy is fighting you or a nearby ally, they're immediately forced to attack the training dummy.

Training dummies are a way to cheat WoW Hardcore mode, as you can use them to avoid death pretty easily. Place a training dummy to take the heat off, run out of range, and by the time it's destroyed or despawns, you're out of the enemy's aggro range.

While you can recover some materials by looting a destroyed training dummy, WoW Hardcore players should be cautious about returning to hostile territory while it is on cooldown.
